The Addition Tables

Material

  • A mat
  • two sets of short bead stairs
  • an addition sum card

Presentation

  1. The child arranges each set of short bead stairs into a triangle.
  2. He reads the first sum.
  3. He takes the first addend from the stair on the left and the second addend from the stair on the right.
  4. He counts the beads and records the answer.
  5. As the first addend will be the same throughout the table the child need only change the second bar as he goes along.

Exercise

The child can now make his own summary of addition tables for his own reference.
