Presentation

‘Let’s take the number 24 which is the same as…? 2 tens and 4 units’. Lay out this quantity. ‘Let’s see how many groups of 3 we can make to be equal to 24. Put out 8 bars of 3, counting as you go. ‘Let’s see how many groups of 6 we can make to be equal to 24’. The child is, of course, helping you to lay out the bars and counting. It is not necessary to record yet. For the child’s work on his own, he has some prepared slips:

‘How many groups of 5 are there in 25?’

How many groups of 7 are there in 14?’

‘How many groups of 2 are there in 12?, etc.

24÷8=3

Express this in beads.
