Reading Cards

Materials

  • Reading cards, matching word labels. The Reading Cards should always be as follows:

-2 pictures (identical) matching words on labels. One of these should be on a card with the caption underneath.  Please note: the word should be in ordinary print (lower case) letters and not capitals.

– The second picture (identical) should be plain without writing and there should be a space to put the correct label beneath the picture

First Exercise

Teacher has the child name and talk about about the unnamed pictures.

Second Exercise

The picture with the name on it is put out. The child matches the label with the name and continues with each. The child repeats many times until he is matching all the labels.

Third Exercise

The picture without the names are put in a row. The child reads the labels and places them onto the correct blank pictures. (So he is now reading and not just matching.)

Control of error for the third exercise: He takes the pictures with the names and checks what he has put out.
