Indirect aim

  • To give reading practice.
  • To increase the vocabulary.

Age of interest

Approximately five years.

Teacher’s presentation

  1. Write out a verb, and give it to the child to act out as before.
  2. Then take another slip of paper and write an adverb on it in a different colour, and put it with the verb.
  3. Then the child will act out the modified action. If you write ‘hop’ at first, add ‘quickly’, or if the child has been hopping quickly change it to ‘slowly’.
  4. Place the symbol for the verb on top of the verb, and show the child that the orange circle is for the adverb.

Exercises

  1. As in presentation.
  2. Have cards with actions on them containing adverbs which the child can perform.
